‘Be Kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.’ – Plato
We took a tour of this great organization. Sad to find out that with the recession, funding from the government is going down and the need for their services is going up. They have seen a 10% increase in families needing their services over the last 18 months.
They have three primary shelter. A downtown single adult shelter, Vista Colina emergency family shelter and a men’s outreach shelter.
The single adult shelter provides for over 400 homeless men and women nightly, 4100 annually. Each person is given personal hygiene supplies which include: toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo, sunscreen, towel, blanket, sheets and clothing. As you can probably guess, those items are what they are in need of all the time. More detailed info about their daily needs can be found here.
For the families, they have twelve, 1 bedroom units and eighteen, 2 bedroom units to serve about 800 families every year. Each person or family that comes into the shelter is assigned a case manager to help them with their specific needs to be able to be self-sufficient again.
CASS has been in the Valley of the Sun helping the homeless for over 25 years. We are so excited to have them as our charity this year. Please mark your calendars for October 30th at Hotel Valley Ho for Cupcake Love-in this year.
